Mind-body Healing through Meditation - My Experience
Life sometimes presents us with unexpected challenges that test our physical and emotional resilience. A few months ago, I experienced a life-changing situation and three weeks ago, an accident that resulted in a fracture in my shoulder. During both processes, I used a powerful and transformative resource: meditation. In this blog, I will share how the practice of meditation helped me understand why some things happened to me, shoulder injury included, and accelerated my healing process.
I would like to describe how I felt with the most recent incident, the fall that led to a fractured shoulder. The experience of frustration, pain, and limitation while wearing a sling was both physically and emotionally challenging.

The fracture in my shoulder caused significant pain, especially during the initial stages of the injury. The constant discomfort and throbbing sensation serve as constant reminders of my limited physical capabilities. Simple or accidental movements triggered sharp, shooting pain, intensifying the frustration and making me extremely aware of my vulnerable situation.
Wearing a sling means that I have limited mobility and I am unable to perform even simple everyday tasks that I once took for granted. The inability to use my arm freely led to feelings of frustration as I became dependent on others for assistance and had to rely on alternative methods to accomplish basic activities. Simple actions such as getting dressed, carrying objects, or even reaching for something became arduous tasks. The inability to participate in things I enjoyed added a sense of restriction and helplessness. I was surprised by the extent to which my injury restricted my freedom and independence.
It required a considerable adjustment to cope with the challenges and find alternative ways to navigate through daily routines. The combination of frustration, pain, and limitation created a sense of loss and disruption in my life and I was getting into thought patterns that I had worked to overcome and that I do not want in my life. On top of all the above, I experienced a bad reaction to strong pain relief medication on the first day of the injury. Consequently, I am undergoing the healing process without the aid of painkillers.

Turning to meditation and healing audio recordings as potential tools for healing and well-being significantly aids my recovery process in several ways. Here are some examples of how being committed and practise meditation every day helps me:
· Meditation provides a sanctuary of calm during the physical and emotional challenges I am facing. The healing audio recordings further enhance relaxation, allowing me to release tension and have a sense of inner peace.
· It allows me to have a greater awareness of my body. Through focused breathing and visualisation exercises, I am able to redirect my attention away from the pain and discomfort, reducing its intensity. The healing audio recordings I created, using gentle background music and affirmations, serve as a therapeutic background that complements the meditation practice and further helps with pain management.
· Daily meditations became an invaluable tool for nurturing my emotional well-being during both recovery processes. By regularly dedicating time to sit in stillness and observe my thoughts and emotions without judgment, I developed a greater sense of self-compassion and self-love.
· The mind-body connection fostered through meditation is playing a vital role in accelerating my healing process. Research has shown that meditation can stimulate the relaxation response, reduce inflammation, and enhance the body's natural healing mechanisms. By consistently engaging in meditation and listening to healing audio recordings, I am providing my body with the conditions for recovery and regeneration.
· Through meditation, we can gain a deeper understanding of the connection between mind, body, and overall well-being. Feeling empowered and actively involved in my healing journey is contributing to a greater sense of control and positivity.
· It also helps me to surrender to the present moment and let go of the need to control situations that are beyond my influence. When we learn to accept what it is, we can work on changing it.

I have been incorporating meditation and various techniques to work on mental and emotional blocks with my clients and myself. However, I have only recently begun applying these techniques to tackle physical issues as well. I have to say that my experience with the practice of meditation to support the healing of the shoulder fracture and other health issues has been a transformative journey.
It is important to remain aware of the transient nature of all experiences, including the negative ones. As I practised acceptance and surrender, I began to understand that circumstances change, and even during challenges, there are opportunities for growth and learning. Meditation helps me cultivate patience and trust in the healing process and see things that happen to me as part of a natural cycle of change and transformation.
I am more able to find inner peace, acceptance, and love for myself while recovering from a painful injury. The mind-body connection I experience through meditation allows me to approach the recovery process with a more positive outlook. The use of these techniques became an invaluable tool that I will continue to use for my physical and emotional well-being in the future.
